Vina Maquis, Carmenere, Colchagua Valley, Chile 2019 {sustainable} 100% Carmenere
DEEP RED FRUIT, PEPPER & MOCHA, DUSTING OF CLOVE & ROSEMARY Vina Maquis is essentially an island perched on a stretch of land between the Colchagua Valley’s Tinguirira River and Chimbarongo Creek. The two parallel waterways bring cool coastal breezes and allow the grapes to maintain healthy, balancing acidity while they ripen. While this example from Maquis is classic Carmenere, it features a decidedly prettier and more delicate streak than the often roasty and over-oaked examples that have almost defined the variety of late. Serving Suggestion: Morcilla on crusty bread with slivers of Manchego. Slooooow-cooked Pork Pernil with a brown-sugar shellacked skin and roasted poblano. Masterful with mole!
